@chrishart_official : Evolution is a good thing. It is difficult, but ultimately for the better. We learn about our weak points and things that threaten our survival, we change and learn new habits and skills to better adapt to the times. Now is another chance for evolution. In the wake of countless reports of sexual harassment involving people of influence and power, it is important that we accept the reality. Times have changed. “I didn’t mean it.” “Those were the times.” Those types of defenses are insufficient. We should see what it is. Almost all of us have contributed to a destructive, counterproductive and traumatic culture of abuse. How do I know most of us contributed? Because “those were the times” and most of us choose to conform to the norms of the times rather than stray from them. The intent is irrelevant. Being oblivious is irrelevant. We should accept that whether we knew or not, or whether we meant it or not, that countless people are hurt and traumatized by sexual harassment and abuse every single day. “I’m sorry.” “How do we change?” “Are you ok?” “What can I do to help?” In my mind, those are the most relevant places for us to start so that we can embrace evolution and move forward as a better society.
