Now at 34 and a father of two, this saying has more significant meaning to me. The biggest flaw we have is that as we age, we become defiant toward change. We come to believe that the world has always been as we have experienced it and that it should forever be the way we remember it. We burden future generations with our selfishness and the weight of our self-importance. I do not want to put that weight on my children. The world has always changed and will continue to change, and it should change.
